Lens cleaners are important for maintaining the laser pickup in any machine that plays discs. This is an inexpensive accessory that everyone should have in an audio tool kit.
It's a professional microfiber dual brush cleaner and is something used by service technicians and repair shops. Other cleaners use a single brush which often works good, however this dual brush system does an even better job.
It comes with a bottle of cleaning fluid and can be used wet or dry.
Dry is OK for regular maintenance.
The liquid helps to remove tough residue on your lens.
Just put a drop or two on the brushes, pop it in your machine for a few seconds and you're done.
All machines "spin" when discs are inserted. When you insert a disc like this, it spins and cleans instantly.
It's that simple.
If you're never cleaned your machine lens cleaners are a good insurance policy that helps prevent problems. Especially in dusty and smokey environments or where there is pet hair.
If your machine no longer reads discs this may help. Not always but it's worth a try. It's a lot cheaper than a repair bill and sometimes will magically bring an old dirty machine back to life.

This is one of the best lens cleaners made but personally speaking the instructions on the disc are useless. Simply put a drop of fluid on each of the brushes, pop it in your machine, wait a few seconds, then remove it. You're done. The disc spins automatically when inserted and the laser is cleaned. Many machines won't read a disc with brushes. You don't need the disc to tell you anything. Use about once a month to keep your machine clean. Service shops often charge five bucks for a "quick clean" of players and simply use this disc. You could do the same thing (don't tell anyone).
